Draws by mutual agreement in under 30 moves are not allowed. There must be no pre-arranged or tacit agreements to draw games of any length, by repetition or otherwise. Genuine draws by repetition or stalemate are acceptable. Penalties may involve loss of prize money.

Both Challengers and Amateurs play daily at 10.00hrs from 27 to 31 January 2009.
The rate of play is all the moves in 100 minutes + 10 seconds per move added from the start. The games rarely last more than four hours and competitors can play in the Masters as well as a morning event.

All games in Masters, Challengers and Amateur events shall be graded in the English Chess Federation List. The Masters and both Challengers shall be FIDE Rated.
Selected games by non-professional players or analysis of their own games shall be the subject of master classes offered by grandmasters.
These shall be conducted by Stewart Reuben. Stewart is author of many books on the subject.
