What a Blitz!
Alice Mascarenhas reports: The Blitz tournament attracted some world champions this week, including Women’s World Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk and the young Peruvians, brother and sister Jorge and Deysi Cori.
88 players participated in the event in which everyone could mix and join in from the amateurs to the world champions. There were teams with some interesting names which must have taken some time to decide on such as Golden Gunns, Monkey Business, Awful, Fourful and even the Spice Girls, though they were not the original four.
The winning team was called ‘What Mama Says’ made up of team members GM Movsesian, GM Dzagnidze, IM Dronavalli and IM Sachdev.

In second place was the team ‘Perustars’ with IM Cori, WIM Cori T, Battaglini and Tscharotschkin.
Two of the 'Peru Stars' team - WIM Deysi Cori Tello and Mikhail Tscharotschkin.
In third place team ‘Gustafsson’ with team members GM Gustafsson, GM Naumann, GM Hoffmann and GM Siebrecht.
The winner in the mixed team was ‘Anna’Z Rules’ with GM Fridman, GM Malakhatko, IM Zatonskih, and IM Zozulia.
In second place were the ‘Barracudas’ with IM Krush, IM Boskovic, IM Houska and FM Zaremba.

Just having fun
Play was concentrated in Nuno’s Restaurant but other areas of the hotel were also used.
