Best Game Prize 2005

During this year's Edition of the Gibraltar Open there is a generous best game Prize of 500 Pounds. There have been numerous attractive games that have been played.- BUT ONLY ONE HAS BEEN ENTERED TO THE BULLETIN STAFF!!!

Please submit your games as soon as possible if you wish your game to be entered.

Here, at the engine room of the tournament we will choose what we believe to be the best ones. We would like you, the general public to help us decide which game is deserving of the 500 Pounds.

BELOW ARE SOME EXAMPLES FROM LAST YEAR TO STIR YOUR BRAINS! The first entrant was Scot Paul Motwani who played a creative game when on the Black side of a Modern defence.

Position after 12..,h5
Al Sayed,M - Motwani,P 0-1

Nigel Short started the tournament slowly but  then showed his attacking skills. Witness some moments from his game Short,N - Pogorelov,R 1-0 against GM Pogorelov as an example! He started the fireworks by a knight sacrifice then followed up by giving away a rook as well!

White starts with 20.Nd5!                                                                                   Nigel Short now played 24.Rxg7! to destroy the final defences!

Scottish G.M. Jonathon Rowson played a "hypermodern" game versus Andrew Muir where he moved his dark squared bishop 5 times in 10 moves then brought out his Queen and Rook out only to collect some bounty and return home! Muir,A - Rowson,J 0-1

White to play, how many pieces has Black developed?

Blacks 30...,Ra2! decides the day.

Take a look at these two positions from Swathi,G - Beshukov,S 1-0

After 24.d7 After 26..,Rc3
The question was how did the White Queen get from h3 to d7? I think you will be surprised at the answer! Please play through the game!

One of the discoveries of the tournament was Chanda Sandipan. His game Sandipan,C - Hebden,M 1-0 was a most impressive and creative attacking display.

Here White started the atack with 25.Nxg5! After 29.h4! with the idea of 30.g4 Black seems powerless!

A spectacular game from round 6 was Kunte,A - Sulskis,S 1-0 which had an unusual material inbalance.

Position before Whites 49th move Nc6 Black has just played 59...,h3 Kunte,A - Sulskis,S 1-0
