Liem Le Quang is currently the number-one ranked player in Vietnam and the 29th strongest active player in the World at Jan 1st 2012.
He was the Under-14 World Youth Champion in July 2005 and competed for Vietnam at the 2006 and 2008 Olympiads.
In 2010 Liem tied for 1st-4th with Chernyshov, Bareev and Inarkiev in the Moscow Open and at Dortmund, in a field consisting of Kramnik, Mamedyarov, Ponomariov, Leko and Naiditsch, finished with five consecutive draws to secure clear second place with 5½/10 and a performance rating of 2776.
In May 2011, he was invited to play in the Elite Group of Capablanca Memorial Tournament with a very strong field of players including reigning champion Ivanchuk, Dominguez, Navara, Bruzon and Andreikin. After the final round defeat, his score was 6½/10, a shared first place but ranked second after Ivanchuk via tiebreak score. |
