Nigel Short has had a distinguished career which includes his famous match against Garry Kasparov for the World title in 1993 at London's Savoy Theatre.  

 

He won the British Championship in 1984, 1987 and 1998, and the English Championship in 1991. He was the Commonwealth Champion in 2004, 2006 and 2008.

 

Nigel has also enjoyed considerable success as a match player. For example, his Candidates win over the legendary Anatoly Karpov in the 1992 semi-final (+4=4-2) was described as "the end of an era."

 

He has enjoyed success in recent years too including his amazing 8½/10 in Gibraltar 2011, ? point behind Ivanchuk who scored an incredible 9/10.

 

Nigel also won the Staunton Memorial in 2009 and narrowly missed out on two titles in 2011; the Commonwealth (on tiebreak to Gawain Jones) and the British Championship play-off to Mickey Adams.
